Two Recent RTT's - Super Brief Batreps

Well hello there everybody. I realize I’ve been gone for quite a bit but I should be mostly back now. A big part of it was that I hadn’t had time to play almost any 6th edition and to talk about it without some hands on experiences seemed silly to me. Since I’ve recently played in two tournaments in the last two weeks and have another scheduled for this weekend as well as Nova the week after that I think I’m finally starting to get a feeling for 40k in 6th edition. Not that I have it figured out by any means but I definitely feel better talking about now than I did 3 weeks ago J

Dark Star - Game 2

Dark Star: Game 2

General Info:

This is a 5-game GT that took place in Minneapolis, MN. It sold out at its target of 60 people. The codex breakdown can be found in this thread: http://hulksmash-homeplace.blogspot.com/2012/02/dark-stars-comin.html . Every missions is 3 Objectives with whoever wins the most objectives winning the game. It’s straight win/loss with tiebreakers. The tournament as a whole is closer to a gaming event than a tournament in that only 75/185 (or 40%) points are battlepoints.

Well now that I’m pretty darn sure I’m going to manage to get everything painted in time for Saturday it’s time I post the list I sent in for the Dark Star.

All Terminator Lists Part 3: Grey Knights!

Well I’m finally finishing this out from back in July. There have been one or two people who bring it up regularly and I felt like I should complete this especially since I’ve been on such a Terminator kick this last year. You can see the other two articles here:

Grey Knights are the third book that can take terminators as troops. Grey Knights are unique though in that they can take two different kinds of terminators as troops. Paladins and standard GKT’s. I’m going to split the two because I don’t think they mesh well in a single list. So we’ll start with the Paladins J

Grey Knight Armored Spearhead - 1850

I’ve been on a bit of a Land Raider kick lately. I’ve been pondering tons of lists featuring 3+ Land Raiders since I think they’d be fun. I blame a fella at a local event this weekend who mentioned the 5 Land Raider Blood Angel list for getting my mind going down this road. Anywho:

Grey Knights 1850 - Pallies, Henchmen, and Dreads...Oh My!

My attention span lost traction again today and I started playing with army builder looking at 1850 lists that I might consider particularly nasty. This is one I came up with which is pretty gross:

Ard Boyz - Grey Knights Take 2!

After looking over my models and seeing what I had I think I like this a little more. It’s a tweak on the old list. Enjoy!

Ard Boyz Semi's - Grey Knight Super Spam!

It's Sunday, the wife is catching back up on her shows and I've finished building all the Ogre stuff I won yesterday at a RTT. I'll start painting it later this week but for now I'm playing with lists for the Ard Boyz Semi's this weekend. Turns out I managed to nab the last spot available at the most local semi's when I signed up yesterday which is good because driving seemed like a bummer. Here is super spam list that oddly might be able to compete in these missions assuming we don't roll KP's for the third mission.

1,500pt All Foot GK Lists (RTT Next Weekend)

I'm taking a quick break from my batreps since it's the weekend and they just seem like a ton of work right now so I thought I'd share the idea of an army I might run at 1,500 next weekend. I'm kinda in love with non-mech lists right now for some reason so this is going to be a GK all-foot list.

Boots on the Ground! Progression of a 2k Foot Grey Knight List

So yesterday I got a bit of Vassal on against Dash's Henchmen List. I had originally asked him what he thought of an all foot GK list. He laughed and told me I'd get shot to pieces and then proceeded to shoot me down so that our game ended 8-1 on KP's. Granted his army is a hard counter to what I was running but at the same time I shouldn't have a hard counter against any of my lists so I needed to tweak it. The list I ran yesterday looked like this:

2xMalleus in TA w/Psycannon
1x10 Purifiers w/4 Psycannons, 6 Halberds
2x5 Purifiers w/2 Psycannons, 3 Halberds
5x10 Strikes w/2 Psycannons, Hammer, Psybolt Ammo

72 Models w/20 Psycannons and 80 St5 Bolter Shots a turn.

But I ran into this hard counter in Dash's list:

Email - All Terminator Army

“These are a couple of the basic mechanized lists I drew up, basing most around the deathwing tactica, as there are some long-time DW players on warseer who have spent a long time getting very, very good with their bottom-tier army. But since the GK codex has a lot more options than the DA do, I wonder if there is are better ways of doing things. Most people have advised SRs over the LRs, but personally I feel the storm raven to be out of place in this kinda list - as a blood talons delivery system I think it works great since its survival is not really required, but in this case its role is more to increase maneuverability... which requires it to be alive. The other advantage I see of the LRRs is that they operate in the same sweet spot as the paladins, and both can be used to screen each other depending on the local threat environment, or even castle up if things turn sour.

Rules: Terminator armour, Dreadnoughts, probably dreadknights, and land raider variants only.

Tournament Results from this Weekend

So this weekend I played my GK at their second tournament. This is what I brought:

Grand Master w/Incinerator
10xPaladins w/4xPsycannons, 2xHalberds, 4xSwords, 4xHammers
5xPurifiers w/2xPsycannons, 3xHalberds, Rhino
5xPurifiers w/2xPsycannons, 3xHalberds, Rhino
10xStrikers w/2xPsycannons, Hammer, Rhino
10xStrikers w/2xPsycannons, Hammer, Rhino
Dread w/2xAC’s, Psybolt Ammo
Dread w/2xAC’s, Psybolt Ammo

Well I decided last minute to run 10 Paladins. That part was entertaining. I’m still trying to determine if they are allowed to walk on in DoW as a combat squaded unit since they weren’t held in reserves but since I didn’t know the answer (and still don’t if anyone wants to chime in) I had to run them as a single squad the first game but I digress.

Nova Invitational GK List #1

Well I had 2 posts just go missing. Which is annoying to no end but I'm gonna put this up as a stop gap until I get the other ones ready to roll again.

So we're going to start with a scaled down version of my current GK list for this. I don't actually know how solid the 2k list is yet since I won't be trying it out until tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how that goes but for now here is the first attempt!

Draigo Wing!

So I’ve been a little obsessed lately w/a Draigo led Pally force. I’ve done a bit of thinking and I’m kinda liking these as they’ve got the weapons to deal with hordes but seems to have some gumption. This is something I just threw together. Here is the first list:

Paladins – Poor Misunderstood Paragons of Marinehood

So this article is going to be about exactly what the title says. I’ve been reading around the internet a lot as I’m now required to work 3 days of overtime a week and I’ve notice a general dismissal of Paladins. Now that’s not saying that people don’t like them. In fact it seems to be the opposite. People love the idea but for various reasons don’t think they’ll fit into a competitive list. So let’s look at some of the reasons people find them non-competitive and at the same time we’ll address how I see them fitting into lists.

2k GK list for this Weekends RTT

So I'm getting ready for this weekend. I've got 99% of my stuff finally built. I've started primering my built models and have been tweaking and tuning my last 500pts. Here is what I'm thinking about for this weekend.

First GK Tournament and Future Thoughts

So this weekend I played in a local tournament and it was a purely KP based tourney. There were modifications like in the first round every model upgrade (sergeants) and hq’s were worth an extra KP and in the second game troops were worth 2 kp’s instead of 1. But it was pretty much just a straight KP tournament. I decided to bring this:

2xInquisitor w/Psycannon, Terminator Armor, Servo Skull
2xSingle Paladin w/Hammer
10 Purifiers w/4xPsyscannons, 6xHalberds, Rhino
5 Warrior Accolytes w/Rhino
2x10 Strikers w/2xPsycannon, Psybolt Ammo, Hammer, Rhino
10 Strikers w/2xPsycannons, Pysbolt Ammo, Rhino
7 Interceptors w/Psybolt Ammo, Hammer
Dreadnought w/Dual Auto-cannons, Psybolt
Dreadnought w/Assault Cannon, AC, Psybolt

Grey Knight Interceptor Fun!

So while I was watching the cool kids play on Sunday at Adepticon Mike and I started discussing army lists and Grey Knights came up. Nothing crazy but something that got my mind going was “the fun is in the movement phase”. And ya know what….I find myself agreeing. So I worked on a list on my 7 hour drive home that’s 2k and looks like quite a bit of fun.
