Indy Open & My Army

Well I made it back from Indy without crashing and just ahead of the snow. I figured I'd share some photos of my army and how I did at the tournament with you guys.

You can find my army list here: http://hulksmash-homeplace.blogspot.com/2013/03/indy-open-this-weekend-initial-thoughts.html

Indy Open this Weekend & Initial Thoughts on Upcoming Daemons

Well I left this morning at 530am for a 10-12 hour drive down to Indianapolis for the second Indy Open. I’m cruising down with some local players so it should be a fun trip.

This is what I decided on bringing for the event. For those that don’t know it’s a 1750pt GT that caps out at 64 players.

I managed to get it all painted up in the last three weeks (to be fair 28 of the IG were done before that). Haven’t had time to make an updated board for them though so it’s the same battle foam board I’ve had for the last year. I’ll be building my display now that my army is done and should have it done and pictures up before the Dark Star GT in two weeks.

Imperial Guard w/Chaos Allies – 1,850

Here is a little something I’m playing with lately. It’s still in its rough stages but I think it has some potential.

Something Fun to Come out of the FAQ’s – Space Wolf Allies

Everyone and their mother is talking about the FAQ’s and there are quite a few things that either clarify some waffly rules or change things pretty significantly but I wanted to focus on this one, single thing because it brought a little joy to my eyes and made my brain a start to working.

Logan – Friend to the Little People

As most of you might have guessed I have a wee-bit of a crush on Logan. He’s just an all-star! That being said I recently went all in on a plastic daemon army that I’m going to be slowly painting up. But while I’m painting that up I have my Iron Warriors that I started and those need paint and I truly love all the conversion opportunities I’ve got in that army. And since Iron Warriors still hold the record for longest hold on my attention span in a row (1.5 years with no interruptions!!!!!) and there is a new codex coming I’ve gotten even more excited.

Traitor Guard w/Unearthly Allies 2k

I've been playing around with some ideas and this one struck me as fun. Should work pretty good against anything short of 6+ flyers but here is what I'm thinking:

I Pity The Guard – A 2,000pt. List

Been busier than I thought so this is another tied over while I finish a few deeper articles.

Based on my previous post I thought I’d throw out a list in the 2,000 range. I feel like it has a few more tools to use than the standard lists out there do though there is naturally room for improvement as this is a first draft. Here we go:

I Pity the Guard! - Thoughts on Guard in the Current Environment

Well I said I was working on a few random articles and this is one of them. I’ve recently closed out the summer “season” of tournaments which included 3 GT’s that totaled 27 games, several RTT’s, and the Ard Boy Prelims/Semi’s. Oddly I’m not burned out on the hobby. I will say I’ve been looking at Fantasy as a way to change things up a bit but that’s beside the point.

The point of this article is that I’m starting to feel a little pity in my heart for the Guard players out there. Bear in mind this is purely off what I’ve run into and seen in events in Virginia, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Texas as well as lists I see being written up online on blogs and several forum communities. Some guard players still do very well for themselves but in general also aren’t posting their lists and aren’t taking the top spots in tournaments anymore(I said in general Mike since you’ve got 2 events coming upJ). Why aren’t we seeing IG in the top spots anymore? Why has their representation dropped (not back to pre-5th ed. codex levels but pretty close) so much?

Ogryns – The Shunned & Abused

So this article on Dakka popped back up: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/373980.page

It got me to thinking again, especially with how dismissive and plain incorrect some of the comments are, about one of my favorite units in the IG book. OGRYNS!

This article is a review on the strengths and weaknesses of this unit as it applies to the hardcore mech lists, hybrid lists, and the foot horde. Basically I want to talk about the Ogryns place in an IG army and try to explain their purpose for those people who actively dismiss them as a unit to bring and maybe see if I can get some people to give them a test run. This isn’t a “well you just don’t know how to use them” article. My goal is to explain their strengths and weaknesses and allow you to see if they might work for you.

So let’s look first at an Ogryns general positive points:

Weekend Hobby Update!

So this weekend has been a heavy weekend for hobby stuff. In case you missed the news Adepticon is coming up on Friday! I drive off Thursday morning to a full weekend of drinking and gaming. But for that weekend I needed my Nids for the Championships and my team tournament IG all infantry force. So things I needed to do this weekend:

Hobby Update!

So yesterday and today I’ve been taking care of the wife who’s recovering from some surgery. Which has given me the chance to get my Adepticon team army built and started on painting. So yesterday I put together:

2x10 Vet Squads
2xAuto-Cannon HWT’s
2xInfantry Squads
1xPCS
My version of Yarrik

I also got all of the above primed as well. Today:

I plan on getting the 5 Ogryns I wanna run built as well as getting started on the painting. I’ll put some pictures up either later today or tomorrow so you guys can see what I’m working on. I swear I haven’t fallen off the face of the planet J

Imperial Guard Assault Army

So I've been bored and trying to throw together a way to play IG that I enjoy. If you read my other IG army list you'll know of my love for our large, slow brethren and this list is going to include them too. This list is even more close combat centric than the last one but I think it's pretty well rounded for what is out there nowadays on the tournament scene. Here we go:

Imperial Guard w/OGRYNS!!!!! (Updated cause I misread a rule)

This is just to give people something to read tomorrow before I publish the Tyranid Article that's about 80% done at this point. Hope you enjoy it!

I've been looking at making IG play more aggressively and fit my style. This is probably going to hurt what little "street-cred" I've gained so far in the community but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the giant, slightly dimwitted, but very tough redheaded stepchild of the Imperial Guard. That's right Ogryns! So I've designed a list that I think can make excellent use of them. Please note I'm not stating that this is a super tough army to pick up and run with but it does fit the criteria for the way I like to build my lists. Here we go:
