Ard Boyz Semi's - Grey Knight Super Spam!


It's Sunday, the wife is catching back up on her shows and I've finished building all the Ogre stuff I won yesterday at a RTT. I'll start painting it later this week but for now I'm playing with lists for the Ard Boyz Semi's this weekend. Turns out I managed to nab the last spot available at the most local semi's when I signed up yesterday which is good because driving seemed like a bummer. Here is super spam list that oddly might be able to compete in these missions assuming we don't roll KP's for the third mission.

Total: 2,499

So we're looking at 12 Rhino Hulls and another 88 bodies. Lot's of St.6 and St.7 shots. Quite a few rending shots. Large unit control won't be a problem. This army will eat DE and almost any elite army. It can kill lots of light-medium vehicles per turn which should make it pretty solid. I included the Grand Master so that I can add scoring units in the dog pile in the middle mission. And as a bonus the army should be able to survive on planet bowling ball which is how I expect tables at our local semi's to be like this weekend with there being 42 people signed up.

This looks like a pretty sweet army. I know at Stelek's blog, there was talk about the heavy bolter being far superior to the assault cannon. It seems like the S7 assault cannon would be better because it could take down land raiders and because it could really shred light vehicles. The chance of getting rending just seems to be so much superior to saving the 35 points.

So the meltas are for busting tough stuff at close range. However, how does this list handle three Godhammer's at long range (48) in?

I am also taking the knights instead of the wolves due to mission 2 and 3. My difference is Crowe and purifiers with combat squads up to scoring units. I like the interceptors for that late grab stuff.

I'll see if you actually bring it.
You will take down Tyler's DE with it. Small chance of playing him with 1/42, then 1/21 then 1/11 odds.

It's a list I'm considering because of how good it is against most armies. The way it makes DE cry is just a bonus for me and since I know there are going to be at least a few it's a good idea to be ready for beast packs and hellion swarms. Beast Packs in particular are nasty if someone has 3 full units built up.

As for what I'm bringing like I said on Saturday, I'll probably figure it out on friday night :)

That list is nasty and looks like fun to run.
I realize useless Troops in throwaway transports with one meltagun is all the rage these days, but with 2500 points, you could come up with some Troops that could actually contribute to the game. Why aren't you?

It's the transports that do the actual fighting. Basically I'm paying a tax to have a mobile St. 6, twin-linked, 3 shot gun. Plus the missions and the way they work out in the semi's means MSU is the thing to do. You need 6+ troops and nobody does it better than IG or GK's. I've made a slight tweak to the list with the troops to make them more useful in the second game and maybe 3rd depending on what it comes up with so we'll see. And it even saved me a few points :)

He hides behind the rhino wall. And then joins the first unit that falls out of a transport to help keep them alive. Or he spends the first turn attached to the Interceptors if I don't go first to make sure he doesn't get picked off :)
I don't know it's good, I just feel like it's missing something. You have 50 3+ armor saves, and that can be tough to deal with. I feel like this army would have a hard time against armies with powerful death star units. In fact, I don't know how well this would fare against another Grey Knight army, especially one with a draigowing.

But aside from that(and this is coming from the guy you beat in the second round of the NOVA open, so I can't really speak), it's very strong. Good luck!
Yea this would be a fun list to play against! im still working on terrain for the store so it wont be planet bowling ball. hoping for one peice of los blocking for every table. Were also going to match people up from MN with people outside MN as most of the people that have signed up are from outside MN and its no fun to play the people you came with at least tell the last round. If i get a chance to play you hulksmash that would be great!

Awesome! I've got my fingers crossed that you can manage to get some terrain on the tables since that'll only make this army even meaner if I choose to use it. I'm looking forward to Saturday and the playing MN vs. non-MN is probably a good call round one to keep people who might play normally from knocking each other out. Either way it's gonna be a good time. Especially if I can make up my mind on the list I wanna bring. I could run 30 Paladins and 2 Dreadknights :)

By the way, is this Tyler or someone else? If it's someone else be sure to say hey on Saturday whether we play or not :)
Yep its Tyler. ill be there either with my space wolves or dark eldar. havent decided yet. i figured ide put the sw in retirement for now as it got rather click and shoot with them, so i figured ide play an army requiring more finess. i also agree on terrain as it would make the DE meaner too! but having terrain is goor for every army really.
Just wondering if you ever thought about taking like 10 Inquisitors in TA and Psycannon's and the ghost general dude with the min ghosts and dropping them with no scatter on turn 1.
That would be funny.
