New Daemons – New/Changed Unit Discussion & 2k Army Lists

Well most of us have seen that there are new daemons headed our way in the next few weeks. What makes this awesome is that it’s for some new units and also for some of the most fiddly of the current range. What makes it even more awesome is that in addition to some new units getting entries similar to the Storm Talon/Dakka Jet some of the old entries are being updated. Namely Flamers and Screamers. The only contention is going to be their invul saves but for a second let’s assume they’d have the saves the units would normally have in the Daemon book.

So why is this so awesome? How often do you see flamers or screamers currently? The change to 6th might have boosted how often you saw screamers until vehicles started to drop off the scene but Fiends and Crushers have always been the babies of the elite slot. This means you rarely saw flamers due to cost effectiveness outside of a 3-man suicide squad. Well that’s changed!

Welcome to 6th: Daemons

This is the first in a series on armies and the changes 6th has brought to them. We’re starting with Daemons because I think they got an enormous boost in this edition and will be a ton of fun to play.

Scout Bikers – So Sneaky You Never See Them!

I’m taking a small break from my Necron writings because, well, I want to J. I’m still in love with my Necrons and will have them painted in the relative near future and ready to play but I felt like doing another one of my overlooked unit reviews. You might remember:

Well now I’d like to focus on a unit that does not get nearly enough face time with Space Marine or Blood Angel players. The humble Scout Biker. I’ll focus on its overall strengths and drawbacks and then how it applies to both the SM and BA codexes.

Lone Wolves – My Thoughts on Why and How….

I was asked over a 2 weeks ago to describe the role Lone Wolves play in my current Loganwing list and how I see their roll overall. I had been meaning to do this and it just got away from. Luckily I found the beginning of this article on this computer and can happily knock this out. Onto my thoughts!

General Disclaimer: My opinions are not the be all, end all of thoughts on 40k be it list building or strategy and opposing lines of thought are appreciated as it makes for better conversation.

That said let’s look at my superstar and favorite unit in the SW’s codex; the Lone Wolf. Now we’re going to start with the unit entry as a whole and then I’ll go into how I’ve slipped them into my lists over the two years.

Ogryns – The Shunned & Abused

So this article on Dakka popped back up: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/373980.page

It got me to thinking again, especially with how dismissive and plain incorrect some of the comments are, about one of my favorite units in the IG book. OGRYNS!

This article is a review on the strengths and weaknesses of this unit as it applies to the hardcore mech lists, hybrid lists, and the foot horde. Basically I want to talk about the Ogryns place in an IG army and try to explain their purpose for those people who actively dismiss them as a unit to bring and maybe see if I can get some people to give them a test run. This isn’t a “well you just don’t know how to use them” article. My goal is to explain their strengths and weaknesses and allow you to see if they might work for you.

So let’s look first at an Ogryns general positive points:

Paladins – Poor Misunderstood Paragons of Marinehood

So this article is going to be about exactly what the title says. I’ve been reading around the internet a lot as I’m now required to work 3 days of overtime a week and I’ve notice a general dismissal of Paladins. Now that’s not saying that people don’t like them. In fact it seems to be the opposite. People love the idea but for various reasons don’t think they’ll fit into a competitive list. So let’s look at some of the reasons people find them non-competitive and at the same time we’ll address how I see them fitting into lists.
