Indy Open this Weekend & Initial Thoughts on Upcoming Daemons

Well I left this morning at 530am for a 10-12 hour drive down to Indianapolis for the second Indy Open. I’m cruising down with some local players so it should be a fun trip.

This is what I decided on bringing for the event. For those that don’t know it’s a 1750pt GT that caps out at 64 players.

I managed to get it all painted up in the last three weeks (to be fair 28 of the IG were done before that). Haven’t had time to make an updated board for them though so it’s the same battle foam board I’ve had for the last year. I’ll be building my display now that my army is done and should have it done and pictures up before the Dark Star GT in two weeks.

Dark Angels List - Azrael & Friends - 1850

I had the chance to play at a local RTT this weekend. We had 11 people show up and it was a good time. I'll be posting up my batreps sometime this week so keep an eye out but I wanted to share my list and initial thoughts first.

Dark Angels – A Starting Point

Well the codex is out. People are excited or pissed in varying degrees. We’ve got quite a few typos some people out there are trying to build armies around and some people lamenting Chaos Space Marines already. Oh what a time to be in love with 40k.

Fun List For This Weekend’s RTT – 1,850

So I’m currently building up my pretty heavily converted Iron Warrior army and since they are nowhere near done I figured I’d bring a fun army to a local RTT. And one that’s mostly painted. This is what I’m thinking:

I learned quite a bit about how the army functions and supports itself. However the game was against foot orks where I made almost innumerable mistakes due to DoW and me not being familiar enough with how this type of Nid army functions. Basically I got soundly thrashed. The issue was not focusing my forces and hitting together. I should have accepted an extra turn of shooting for all of my units to hit together. Also Orks are ugly for this type of list with all the Klaws that are around and the sheer number of attacks it makes the multi-wound creatures far less survivable than normal.

All Terminator Lists Part 1: Deathwing

Well as you’ve obviously noticed I played an all Terminator list this last weekend at the Bugeater GT in Omaha. I went 5-1 and am now an EXPERT on all Terminator armies, including ones I’ve never played! J

Now my list had a lot of cool factor to it. I have to say that shoving 35 Terminators down the throat of your opponents is a blast! That being said there are some inherent weaknesses in these types of lists. Originally I was going to cover some thoughts on the weaknesses of all Terminator lists, their strengths, and some points to focus on when building a list for all terminator forces. On second thought I think I’m going to refocus the article into a series covering the 3 armies allowed to take termies as troops and include their strengths, weaknesses, differences, building techniques, and how to capitalize on their strengths.

Off to the Bugeater GT!

So when this goes live I'll either be on the road or will have just arrived in Omaha, Nebraska for the Bugeater GT. I'm splitting a room with InquisitorDunn who posts on here from time to time and another one of his buddies who is gonna pull cot duty all weekend.

This is a 6-game 1,850 tournament that has the winner being determined by overall record for the weekend. It's strictly win/loss. However, much like the Nova it's based after, the second highest award (pretty equal really when you look at the prize support) is for the "Overall Winner". This is 50% battle, 25% Sports, and 25% Painting. I do think they probably should have stuck with the 33/33/33 split of the Nova since it's win/loss but it's still workable.

Hobby! Deathwing Painting Update

So I finished putting these together on Sunday and as of Wednesday morning this is where they are at paintwise and I wanted to share with you guys my mad rush to finish painting and basing this army before the Bugeater GT this weekend.

First is Belial/Logan and another painted Termie. This is how all the models will look and these are two of the five total painted models I had when I started this insane project.

1,850 Deathwing w/RW Support!! (My first army is back!)

Ok, so most of you probably don’t remember but way back in the dark days of 2^nd edition GW released an “army box” of Ravenwing. This was basically what the plastic battleforce is now but it was an entire army back in 2^nd edition. It even came with a metal Tornado (or ravenwing landspeeder as it was back then).

Fast forward to third edition and you’ll get to see the very first army I even fully painted. Multi-wing Dark Angels! Terminators, Bikers, Speeders, and regular Joes. I was really, really proud of this back in the day but with new plastic terminators and the wheel turning and DA’s becoming less and less effective my interest waned. I still loved the look of the models. And any of you that have seen my DIY chapter can tell I love the Iconography of the DA’s and the robed monastic look. So when the new FAQ came out it wasn’t even a question. I’m back on board! Now they will still match my normal DIY so they’ll be white and blue instead of bone and red but I’m like a little kid again. So much so that my Adepticon all foot IG might just be limited to Team Tournament and my DA army of smiting goodness may be my “Championship” army.
