Imperial Guard w/OGRYNS!!!!! (Updated cause I misread a rule)

This is just to give people something to read tomorrow before I publish the Tyranid Article that's about 80% done at this point. Hope you enjoy it!

I've been looking at making IG play more aggressively and fit my style. This is probably going to hurt what little "street-cred" I've gained so far in the community but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the giant, slightly dimwitted, but very tough redheaded stepchild of the Imperial Guard. That's right Ogryns! So I've designed a list that I think can make excellent use of them. Please note I'm not stating that this is a super tough army to pick up and run with but it does fit the criteria for the way I like to build my lists. Here we go:

-HQ-

Company Command Squad-150
3 Melta Guns, Regimental Standard, Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

-Elite-

5 Ogryns-260
Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

5 Ogryns-260
Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

-Troops-

Veteran Squad-165
3 Melta Guns, Power Weapon, Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

Veteran Squad-165
3 Melta Guns, Power Weapon, Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

Veteran Squad-155
3 Plasma Guns, Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

Veteran Squad-155
3 Plasma Guns, Chimera w/Multi-Laser and HHF

-Fast Attack-

Vendetta-130
-Heavy Support-

Colossus-140

Leman Russ Exterminator-190
Plasma Cannon Sponsons

Leman Russ Exterminator-190
Plasma Cannon Sponsons

2,000 on the nose

Let's look at the choices and why I made them for this list. We'll just go straight down the list. The Command squad is pretty standard with the addition of the Regiment Standard in case the Ogryns are close by this can help them hold as well as help Veteran squads that get dismounted early. The elites are covered by Ogryns. The 2 squads of five will generally start mounted in their Chimeras. This gives them a chance to put pressure on the enemy turn 2 or be used as a mobile reserve. It's also a nice speed bump for non-St10 deathstars. The Vendetta is a transport hunter and possilbe pressure unit when transporting other troops.

The troops are pretty standard except that I swapped out 2 units of melta guns for plasma for heavy infantry. I've also put a few power weapons onto the melta squads as they have a tendency to wind up closer to aggressive marine players than a like the chance to kill a marine in combat is nice. I know you rarely see Colussi in today's game but this is a unit that will be worth it's weight in gold in the current meta. Pesky Long Fangs aren't a problem anymore and neither are dug in units that rely on cover to not get taken out. This single unit goes a long way toward pushing you toward a win even in 2 objective missions that IG struggle at. I was turned onto the 2 Leman Russ Exterminators w/Plasma Cannons by Shep. He eventually dropped them but for this army I think they are a solid fit. They give me some more anti-marine and anti-transport all in one. 5 St7 shots a turn, 4 of them TL means you can put a hurting on lighter transports and I think this will also help greatly against the new DE coming out soon.

So that's my thoughts on how to get Ogryns to work in a Mech IG force. You could also drop one squad of Ogryns and replace it with 2-5 man Stormtrooper squads with Melta for harassment/tank killing units.  Just a fun side note.

It's raining men. Big, dumb men. Hallelujah?

It looks interesting, what with the plasma DOOM tanks and Ogryns falling from the sky.

That would be a good trick, if Valkyries/Vendettas were allowed to carry Ogryn.

I think that in a meched-out force, the Ogryn should be in Chimeras too. Five ripper guns out the top isn't shabby. Alternatively, if keeping them on foot putting them in reserve lets them come on in reaction to backfield threats.

Oh monkeys. I double checked the Ogryns entry but did not double check the Vendettas. Good catch Sonoftaurus. I'll be changing it!
