How I’d Run Sisters of Battle – 1,850

I was just thinking up things I’d run if I had a Sisters of Battle army and this is what I came up with.

HQ

Celestine-115

Troop

10 Battle Sisters – 190
Melta, Multi-Melta, Combi-Melta, Rhino

10 Battle Sisters – 190
Melta, Multi-Melta, Combi-Melta, Rhino

10 Battle Sisters – 190
Melta, Multi-Melta, Combi-Melta, Rhino

10 Battle Sisters – 190
Melta, Multi-Melta, Combi-Melta, Rhino

Fast Attack

10 Seraphim – 240
Eviserator, 2xDual Inferno Pistols

10 Seraphim – 240
Eviserator, 2xDual Inferno Pistols

Heavy Support

5 Retributors – 165
4xHeavy Bolters, Multi-Melta Immolator

5 Retributors – 165
4xHeavy Bolters, Multi-Melta Immolator

5 Retributors – 165
4xHeavy Bolters, Multi-Melta Immolator

It’s a total of 75 3+ armored bodies. Couldn’t help but put Celestine in there since she’s a hell of an annoyance unit. Add in the fact that she can join squads for protection on the approach now and she makes an excellent hold up unit. I’ve got a fair amount of multi-melta roaming around and the Seraphim should be rather useful. The rending heavy bolters for cheap are a solid choice too. The only concern is the Multi-melta troop pillboxes which aren’t amazing as a troop choice but I think they’ll work out.

Rending Heavy Bolters means you can now kill tanks with them. With 12 shots per squad you should rend once pretty much every time you fire so its even quite reliable. If machinegunning down a tank isn't cool, then I don't know what is.
Not sure that you have enough killing power at 1850. I agree that the 4 troops are going to underperform. The Seraphim are nice, but I think that at least one Dominion squad would be good in here.

Also, now that you can't re-spend faith, you might want to think about Simulacrums for your Retributors. It sucks if you can't get their faith check off.

Lastly, with so much of your army NEEDING faith to work (3 Retributors), you might want to think about Uriah somewhere.

Just some thoughts. I really like the new book and love seeing more people playing around with them.

For the record, my list at this point level is:
Celestine
Uriah with 9 Hench (7 DCA, 2 Crus)
3 x Sisters with Rhino, MM/Melta
3 x Dominions with TL-MM Immo, 2xFlamers, Combi-M
3 x Exorcists

Not exciting, but very effective. ;)

I've considered Uriah but if I go that route it will include removing a troop choice and likely 2-4 seraphim to enable me to bring enough deathcult to make it useful. Not 100% sold on it but it was a thought that had crossed my mind.

I think it's my unfamiliarity with playing sisters that is pushing me into taking 4 troops. I'm starting to lean more toward dropping one of them in exchange for either a dominion squad or another squad of seraphim ( I love seraphim, can you tell?). As for the rending heavy bolters while it'll be nice if it goes off I'm not relying on it for my army. I'm just a sucker for that kind of firepower and rending 50% of the time is worth it :)

My friend sticks Uriah in a unit of Retributors. It makes them pretty darn hard to kill, and he still gets Uriah's faith benefit. If you did that, you could potentially keep four troops.
Gawd SoB have a horrible troop choice...

Little low on infantry killing power, mostly due to 480 points tied up in the Seraphim which only add more melta on T3 bodies. (oke, they have 4 melta shots each and re-roll to wound possibly, which makes them somewhat able to kill infantry but meh)

On the other hand, 1 DCA squad is far from reliable either, so I guess this list is as good as it gets with SoB ^^

Sad codex is sad. If only they had ATSKNF or something else preventing your 10 man squads from rolling over to 1 power weapon wielding guy.
Seraphim are ok, but not game winners. The eviserator on them is a waste since they fold in HtH. Dominions are a better choice in the slot and cheaper too. 4 squads of battle sisters is over kill. They fold like wheat to ANY hth unit.

IMO Honestly your weakness in the list is moral checks and anti horde fire power. This list would struggle against green tide or Nids. 36 HB shots is ok but not enough and your battle squads are sitting in rhinos or they are dieing to assaults.

My BG gt list is looking like:

Kyrinov (fearless bubble is good)
Jacobus
2 units of 6 dca and 3 crusaders in rhinos
2x 10 battle sisters with flamer, MM and combi plasma in rhinos
2x 5 or 6 Dominions with 2 meltas and combi melta in MM immolators
5 or 6 Dominions with 2 meltas and combi flamer in MM immolator
2x exorcists
5 retributors with heavy bolters, combi weapon for sarg to be determined.

I know I would like a 3rd troop chioce but with the Bugeater format I think 2 will be fine. I'm more worried about KPs. Dominions will have to be key in getting ahead early in KP.
Celestine is awesome in lower point games, ie 1500 maybe 1750. In the 1850-2000 I like to see 2 units of DCA. They are the gem of this codex along with dominions. Their is not much I would not throw DCA at. Maybe GK DCA with grenaades.

I think with sisters you have to be able to fight at 0-24 inch ranges. I think they really are a counter asault style of army now.
Those Retributors are going to constantly be a source of disappointment without a Simulacrum.
Good god, I just ran the math for how much to buy this army. $964.60 plus shipping. That is not including the bits you will need to make the evisorators and inferno pistols for the seraphim plus the combi weapons.

another option is using a played as is army. right now i am building a space marine minotaurs army but at the same time i am building extra models to play them as sisters of battle as well.
Yeah, unless you are independently wealthy, Sisters just hurt to buy. I HIGHLY suggest buying used.
I would agree with inquisitor_dunn on almost all points except Celestine. So far, I've found her good all the way to 2000. At 2500, I would definitely swap to Kyrinov and a 2nd DCA. Although a 2nd DCA squad at lower points level would just be wrong either way, Celestine is just sooo good.

Every time I have fielded Retributors instead of Exos, I have regretted it. Oh well, proxy it and tell us how you like it.
