Blood Angel Heavy Calvary – 1850

From: Bolter & Chainsword

So here is a list I like. Not 100% sold on it but I think it’s pretty solid. It’s not as well rounded as the GK list I posted here yesterday but it could be fun.

HQ

Librarian-100
Shield of Sanguinius, Fear the Darkness

Elite

5 Assault Terminators-460
4xTH/SS, 1xDual LC, Redeemer w/Multi-Melta

Troop

5 Assault  Marines-315
Redeemer w/Multi-Melta

5 Assault Marines-325
Landraider w/Multi-Melta

5 Assault Marines-325
Landraider w/Multi-Melta

5 Assault Marines-325
Landraider w/Multi-Melta

5 Land Raiders w/decent shooting and a solid CC unit. Generally the Landraiders are rocking a 5++ making them 33% tougher than normal. The trick is to dismount your enemy and burn him down using the Redeemers. The Terminators get thrown at the nastiest threat to tear it down. I like it but I’ll be posting a list with less Landraiders later and more toys. Thoughts on this one?

I find it interesting while you are looking at LR lists, I'm looking at units with scout and melta. Are you seeing less melta up there that you think the multi LR lists would win let alone even compete?

How could this list even handle green tide? Is the minneapolis meta all vehicles now?

Not so much all vehicle as the meta doesn't look to be equipped to deal with AV14 in a serious way.

Regarding the scouting Melta it would be much more effective against this list than the GK list as I wouldn't have any blockers available but it's a coin flip for you since you might pull down a single tank with the scouting Melta if your opponent goes second and deploys appropriately.

As for Green Tide you'd be surprised. That is one of the primary reasons for the Redeemers. The real issue is BW Orks since they have the ability to pop the transports thanks to the Deathrollas. The trick against Orks with this list is to actually go second to allow for proper deployment of your limited forces :)

With the cover save your average 4BS Melta shot only has about a 14% chance of popping the LR. The Redeemers/Termies then should be able to punish the suicide squad hard for their aggressive tendencies. I don't know too many armies that amass enough DS'ing melta to put enough dent into the LR's to justify the fact they will be decidedly dead after one turn.

To be fair it's not Deepstriking he's suggesting. It's scouting to be in position turn 1 to pop tanks. And to be fair a BS4 Melta shot within half range has a chance of 18% without cover which means you do have to worry a little about things like DoA Blood Angels.

That said I do think it's difficult for most armies to bring enough hitting power to stop 3+ LR's outside of Tau.

Right on. I was kind of lumping the two together (scout or DSin melta), but yeah the point I was trying to make is people act like melta is auto kill versus LR's but in reality you need about 5 to 8 shots to reliably knock one out, and like you said 3+ can be a real nightmare for most lists, particularly missile spam and the like.

I agree melta is not auto pop. I'm repainting my Sisters of Battle army and 3 scouting Immolator with twin linked multimeltas and three units of Dominions with 2 meltas and a combi melta are pretty scary for this list. Maybe I get twin linked on the squad with faith, maybe I don't.

I will also have 2 exorcists and other units waiting. I will be running 2 units of DCA so the one unit of termies is not really a threat.

Turn one is not as important either as I'll pop smoke and take my chances. I also don't have to go after them turn one too. Posistion maybe more important and setting up blocking lanes maybe the order for the day. Depends on table, mission, and such.

Point is there is just no wow factor here. Nothing scary to change my battle plan.

I'd say that some LRC's mixed in with the redeemers (or all LRC's) would work much better. That and finding a way to mix a FNP chalice in there will really made the terminators tough to erase. That coupled with that many Land Raiders will frustrate many opponents.
